Aquatic Center Programs Include:
Clearfield Aquatic Center Swim Lessons are taught in the Wave Program by trained and certified instructors. Safety is emphasized in each class while learning basic water safety, hydrodynamic principles, and each of the following strokes: Front Crawl, Back Crawl, Breaststroke, Elementary Backstroke, and Butterfly. Advanced levels also learn competitive swimming starts and turns. For more information or to register see the Swim Lessons Page.
Clearfield City Aquatic Team is a year round USA sanctioned swim team for youth ages 8-18. The Tiger Shark's mission is to provide athletes with opportunities to develop and refine competitive swimming skills, learn the habits that will lead to a healthy lifestyle, and build a better sense of community through swimming. We expect and recognize excellence at all levels of our team structure, including athletes, parents, and coaches. Coaches and parents supply the support and environment necessary for the organization to foster personal growth and to allow our athletes to prosper. CCAT Summer Swim Team
Come see what swim teams are all about and try one for the summer! The CCAT Jr. Team is a non USA Swimming registered team that meets three times a week and attends two optional meets. This recreational team is a great way to perfect your skills or just stay fit over the summer. For more information check back summer 2016.
Starting January 1, 2015 the Merit Badge requirements for Swimming and Lifesaving have changed. To better accommodate these changes the format of the BSA Merit Badge class will be updated from 4 days to 8 days. The course will also now include not only Swimming and Lifesaving but the Public Health and Medicine Merit Badge. This means you get 4 badges in 8 classes for the low cost of $40, discounts available if you live in Clearfield.
Merit Badges offered during the summer only include: Crime Prevention, Fingerprinting, Safety, Fire Safety, Canoeing, Chess and all 3 Citizenship badges. For dates and times of these classes check out the summer program guide, www.reconline.org, or call 801-525-2641 during regular business hours.
The Clearfield Aquatic Center offers 27 water exercise classes each week including deep water aerobics, liquid moves, aqua fit, Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Program, senior water exercise classes, and silver splash. Our water workouts are safe, fun and promise results. There is no additional charge for water exercise classes with the price of admission or with a membership. We teach the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course. Courses are offered in the fall, winter and spring.
To enroll in the Lifeguarding course participants must be 15 years old on or before the final scheduled session of the course and must pass the prerequisite skills evaluation. This course will provide participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies. In this class you will also learn how to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies and other injuries or sudden illnesses until more advanced care can be provided.
Lifeguarding Prerequisite Skills Evaluation:
- Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breast stroke, or a combination of both but swimming on the back or side is not allowed.
- Swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive to retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface, and swim back to the starting point. When returning to the starting point you must exit the water without using a ladder of steps, within 1 minute, 40 seconds.
- Tread Water for 2 minutes
Looking for something for youth ages 11 - 15 to do this summer? If they have completed swimming lessons through WAVE 4 they can join our team of Junior Lifeguards. They will learn all about aquatics, safety, refine their swimming skills, help with projects, visit other aquatic facilities and have fun. Participants will receive instruction in the American Red Cross Junior Lifeguarding program. Classes offered during the summer.
We teach the American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Course. Courses are offered in the Fall and Spring. To enroll in the Water Safety Instructor Course participants must be 16 years old on or before the final scheduled session of the course and must pass the prerequisite skills evaluation. This course will provide participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to instruct infants through adults in proper swim technique.
You must pass a prerequisite swim test which consists of the demonstrating the following skills consistent with a Learn-to- Swim Level 4: 25 yards front crawl, 25 yards back crawl, 25 yards breaststroke, 25 yards elementary backstroke, 25 yards sidestroke, 15 yards butterfly, Tread water for 1 minute, and Maintain position on back 1 minute in deep water.
