Community Development Block Grant (C.D.B.G.)

Clearfield City is an entitlement community that receives federal funds from the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) on an annual basis to help meet the housing and community development needs of the city. Funds received help carry out a wide range of community development activities directed toward economic development, neighborhood revitalization, and improved community facilities and services.

Clearfield City, and all other entitlement communities, develop their own programs and funding priorities and consult with local residents before making final decisions. Program planning and reporting information can be found under the Plans & Legal Documents page. All CDBG activities must meet one of the following national objectives:

1. Benefit low- and moderate-income persons
2. Aid in the prevention or elimination of slums and blight
3. Meet certain community development needs having a particular urgency.

Some of the activities that can be carried out with community development block grant funds include the acquisition of real property; rehabilitation of residential and nonresidential properties; provision of public facilities and improvements, such as water and sewer, streets, and neighborhood centers; public services; clearance; home ownership assistance; and assistance to for-profit businesses for economic development activities.
